Disease X

an undetermined disease, caused by a pathogen yet to emerge, that could potentially cause a devastating pandemic. Despite modern technology and the availability of antiviral and antibacterial drugs and vaccines, a virus as severe as the one that caused the 1918 flu would likely kill more than one hundred million people worldwide. The concept of “Disease X” is often used by global health scholars to underscore the dangers of an unprepared and uncoordinated global pandemic response framework.
