Hezbollah
a Shiite militant group and major political party in Lebanon. In addition to competing in Lebanese elections, it is known for providing social services to local Shiite populations and carrying out terrorist attacks against the United States and Israel. It has close ties to the Iranian and Syrian regimes, and in 1997 the United States designated it a foreign terrorist organization.
