two-state solution

a proposed approach to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that would involve the establishment of a sovereign state of Palestine alongside the sovereign state of Israel. In a 2002 speech, George W. Bush became the first U.S. president to vocally support the establishment of a Palestinian state. Most observers believe that a two-state solution is the best way to achieve peace between Israelis and Palestinians, but prospects of reaching it remain uncertain.
